About Zichron Moshe

The vision of the Jewish presence in all of Jerusalem is being realized. This is particularly true in the neighborhood of Ma'aleh HaZeitim on the Mount of Olives where new, spacious, and beautiful apartments are transforming Jerusalem from neglect to expansion. This area, surrounding the Old City and opposite Har HaBayit is awakening to Jewish life. The Gemara, (Sanhedrin 102) teaches us of the great reward granted for building one city in Israel. How much greater is the reward for building Jerusalem, as Rav Kook zt"l said, each house there is equal to an entire city in Israel.
Ma’aleh HaZeitim (in Ras al-Amoud) was established about 20 years ago when Irving Moskowitz bought the land before it was taken over by Arabs attempting to make claim to the area. Subsequently, several families settled the area and lived under difficult conditions until three years later when Rabbi Yaacov Wolf established the Beit Midrash. Today, there are 100 families living in the neighborhood.
It is strategically important to maintain a strong Jewish presence on the Mount of Olives and therefore we must increase the population of the neighborhood.
It is well known that Jewish life grows and thrives when it is attached to a spiritual center; a place for prayer and study. This is obvious from the growth of Ma’aleh HaZeitim after the Beit Midrash was established seven years ago. With this in mind, we are currently working on a project to expand the Beit Midrash.
The Beit Midrash is small in size but large in substance. B”H, there are more scholars who want to join our Beit Midrash both because of the special subject studied and also because of the unique location (to read more about the special subject studied click here)
Every additional scholar that joins the Beit Midrash helps to expand the neighborhood by increasing the demand for housing, public transportation, and other essential services. Additionally, expanding the Beit Midrash will strengthen the community and Jewish presence on the Mount of Olives.
